Projects 2005
Sponsorship of 88 former child workers' education (Rs.1000/- per child) |
These children are former child workers who were prepared through summer
bridge course and later enrolled in schools. They are staying in Government
run social welfare hostels, and attending the local schools nearby.
Four of these children this year passed 10th. Three of them with very high score, above 75%, in spite of the ill equipped government school they attended. Three of them were admitted to a local college, accommodated in the college hostel. We are hunting for the sponsors for them. Recommended is Rs.1000/- per child for 88 children - total Rs.88,000/-. The amount is meant for the initial expense at the opening of the academic year, for their uniform, books, etc. The rest of the amount needed for their support Navajeevan is to mobilize locally

One more year to complete the studies. He is presently having his field
assignment (project work) as part of his study in factory at Hyderabad.
I request the Foundation to continue with the scholarship for him to complete his studies - the amount the Foundation allotted last year for his studies (Rs.52000). The rest of the amount he has to find out from other sources. He worked during this summer holidays, taking care homes for junior street children. The amount he earned will be utilized for his studies.

Santhosh Kumar |
One more year to complete his Masters in Social Work (MSW) at the local University Campus. His request was to support him to continue his final year of studies, staying in university hostel campus. Navajeevan could not agree with the proposal due to the shortage of funds. He will, as last year, attend the college from Navajeevan. Only the extra money needed for the Block field placement (Rs.2000) as part of his studies is added to this year's budget. Of course he needs more money to complete his studies - food, accommodation, etc. He worked during this summer holidays, taking care of children of an organization in Vijayawada. He has contributed this amount towards the same

What she expected is only Rs.34000/-. The rest of the amount her family is mobilizing from different sources. She is one of the best students in her class.

Suresh |
He is requesting support to pursue his next level of education in Medical Lab Technology - B.Sc. - three year course. This is perhaps the case which is strongly recommend as he was from very difficult background… no parents alive… but he works hard now to earn additional amount to continue with his studies… he is grateful that the Foundation helped him to complete the two year Intermediate MLT course. After all concessions by the college authorities with respect to his fee, the amount needed for his studies is Rs.33100. I conveyed the Foundation's inability to support him with the amount requested. The plan now is that he work part-time and earn the extra amounts to pursue his studies. However, he needs badly an amount of Rs.18000/- a year, just for the tuition fee at college, even if the college authorities wave all other fees, on account of the fact that Suresh was one of their best students during his two year intermediate course (which he completed with the Foundation's help). |

Arun Sreenivas |
He completed the two year intermediate course with the Foundation help. He wanted to pursue his studies in aeronautical engineering, a four-year course, along with Mukesh (which the Foundation agreed to help). I recommended the case as he is practically an orphan. His father died. His mother, separated from father when he was alive, is not taking care of him. The course fee mentioned (Rs.41800) is for four years together. That means, course fee is no more needed for the next three years. |

Saraswathi |
She is a former child labourer; presently in Xth; her father died; mother is very sick and old; she is presently helping in Bridge course, teaching the other child labourers the basics: reading, writing and arithmetic. She is one of the two Navajeevan children who attended International Children's Conference at The Hague. The plan is to send her for Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM). ANM course is for 18 months. In the past, she was supported by the Foundation to complete her Xth class. She does not know English. This is one-time help that is needed from the Foundation. I strongly supported it as the said course will certainly help a girl to settle in life. |

She hails from a very poor family, Kadapa district, more than 500 kms from Vijayawada; her parents were daily wage earners (unskilled agricultural labourers) struggling to get an income just to feed their families. She is a former child worker. Like the above case, in the past, she was supported by the Foundation to complete her Xth class. She does not know English. This is one-time help that is needed from the Foundation. I strongly supported it as the said course will certainly help a girl to settle in life. |

The training is for five years, including three-year of Bachelor degree for Commerce. For 2005-2006: Rs.46000/- This fee is usual for this type of course; but indeed it is a very huge amount. The final decision is yours. Only after getting the advice from you, I can take further steps. |
